Tastings, classes, open houses, live music, markets, workshops, and seasonal celebrations all happen within a short drive, and most of them are never advertised anywhere you would think to look. The events calendar collects them in one place. ### Where to Find Events Choose **Events** from the main menu. You will see upcoming events hosted by businesses in the directory. Events also appear on the individual listing page of the business hosting them. ### List View and Calendar View You can switch between two ways of looking at events. - **List view** shows events in order, with photos and descriptions. Best for browsing when you have no particular date in mind - **Calendar view** lays events out by date. Best when you have a free Saturday and want to know what is on ### Filtering Use the filters to narrow the calendar by category or location. If you are willing to travel a little, leave the location filter off, since some of the best events are in the next town over. ### Reading an Event Open an event to see the full details. Look for: - **Date and time,** including the end time so you know how long to allow - **Location,** with a map. Check whether it is at the business or somewhere else - **Cost,** and what that cost includes - **Whether registration is required,** or whether you can just turn up - **Who it is suitable for,** including children and pets - **What to bring or wear,** which matters for anything outdoors or hands on If a detail you need is not there, contact the business through their listing and ask. It is a small local business, not a stadium box office, and they will be glad you are interested. ### Registering or Subscribing Where the option is available, you can subscribe to an event. This does two useful things: it keeps a record for you, and it tells the host roughly how many people to expect. For small events where the host is preparing food, seating, or materials, subscribing is genuinely helpful. If an event requires a paid ticket, you may be able to buy it through the site. Payment goes to the business, and you will receive confirmation by email. ### Before You Go - Check the date and time again on the day, in case anything changed - Look at the map and think about parking, especially for anything popular - For outdoor events, check the weather and whether there is a wet weather plan - If you registered and can no longer attend, let the host know. For a small business, an empty seat they prepared for is a real cost ### Making the Most of It Local events are one of the better ways to discover businesses you would otherwise drive past for years.
